When it comes to photographing a wedding, I don’t believe in making a list and following it. The exception to that is a list of (1) some glamour type shots of bride and groom individually before the wedding, (2) bride and groom as couple after the ceremony and (3 ) family and friends photos with the couple, after the wedding, if it is supplied by the couple or their family.
For the rest of the wedding I find that if I just respond to the unfolding of the day as naturally as I possibly can, I will succeed best with that approach. From the experience I have in the field, I pretty much know what to hone in on, following my instincts when discovering the key moments on the day.
For glamour shots prior to wedding, it is necessary to have a private session with bride, at her place and groom at his place.
In Jenny and Neil’s case, we skipped the glamour shots, in favours of some lively images with great lighting and simple poses. They naturally looked soooo lovely, that their charisma jumped out of their images. I enjoyed the sessions so much that it made everyone enjoy the photo shoots during the day. Jenny, specially had a ball being photographed, and loved being captured with fun approach.
When you’re photographing a wedding, there is a pressure there to make sure you shoot pretty much everything. At the same time, bride and groom rely on you as a photographer to make them feel at ease and make the day fun. On both counts, Jenny and Neil’s wedding, I am happy to say is a great success.
